Paul Le Grand
Paul Le Grand
In his work, the sculptor Paul Le Grand explores the theme of identity in depth and thus the issues of perception and interpretation of so-called reality. In a playful way, he explores the interrelationship between surface and essence and examines the phenomenon of reflection as a questioning of the interpretation of perception in his reflections.
In his search for the greatest possible reduction of the three-dimensional form of expression, he chose mirror glass as the preferred material for his works in the 1990s. Not only does the mirror in its two-dimensionality unmistakably refer to the third dimension - it is also the carrier of the moving image: with every slightest movement of the viewer, the image visible in the mirror also moves, with every new glance a new perspective becomes visible. Each observed image is as unique as it is fleeting (and therefore not ownable). At the same time, the fragility of the mirror glass symbolizes the questioning of the supposed validity of one's own view of the world.
